James Tillman is an American singer, songwriter, producer, and composer – oscillating between music, photography and film. His work has traversed themes of love, joy, desire and loneliness in ways that feel introspective, universal and transcendent.

He has released two acclaimed albums, Silk Noise Reflex and Modern Desires, with music from
both projects featured in film & tv placements including Dear White People, Queen Sugar, i
am OTHER, Issa Rae Presents and more. He has toured extensively in North America, Japan, and
Brazil. His work has been featured in The FADER, MILK XYZ, Essence Magazine, NPR, KCRW,
Okayplayer, American Songwriter, Earmilk, and elsewhere. He holds graduate degrees from The
New School University, where he was a Civic Arts & Humanities Fellow.
